I'm Not Ready to Make Nice

I was perusing the iTunes music store today in search for the perfect entertainment for my car trip tomorrow. As always I glanced at the top song and top album of the day where expect to find Johnny Cash some other country legend. Today I almost broke my neck doing the most textbook double take I have ever performed. Because the top song on the country list was not only a Dixie Chicks song (bad enough) but it was the song "Not Ready to Make Nice."

---------- (this is a dramatic pause to illustrate my confusion) ----------

Okay, I have collected myself and now I'm just plain mad. First of all I am still mad at what they call "the incident." As a Texan I am ashamed that they said what they did, where they did, to who they did. It was a comment at the wrong place at the wrong time. But I can forgive that ... but now this!?! They write a song speaking out against the country genre and against country fans, and those fans promptly put it to the top of the charts! That is outrageous.

The Point: This blog is not about bashing the Dixie Chicks (well not mainly at least) but to point out a flaw in society. They consumer has amazing power that they are not using. What they don't understand is that by buying that song just to hear what all the fuss is about they are supporting it and raising it to the top of the chart. If the Dixie Chicks are not ready to make nice with me I am sure as hell not ready to make nice with them and will do nothing to support them. They have made it clear that they are abandoning country music so I think we should be the nice people we are and return the favor.

Sweeny Todd

When I was in New York on our schools theater trip, I attended the tail of Sweeny Todd. Shortly there after, I completely fell in love with it. And much to my suprise I can now relate it to just as many scholastic (or otherwise) topics as the Matrix and that is saying something.

To give a quick overview (very quick): A man comes back seeking revenge and gets it by killing people when they are in his barbers chair, then his girlfriend bakes them into meat pies. But it has so much wonderful symbolism and it is overall a fantastic show so you should all see it even if you have to get the DVD, then find me and we can talk about it.

Wordly Ring

An interesting thought came to me the other day: What is the point of Arguing (especially politically) if neither party is going to change their views?

Then I realized something else, I love arguing. I would rather debate someone than throw snowballs at them. I think this notion comes from the fact that I have always been the smallest kid in my grade so the only fights I would win would be those of wit and words. And there I found my answer:

We do not debate to change another's point of view (I'm speaking soly about someone who is completely opposite of your view and has little or no change of "seeing the light") but rather to strengthen your own.

And I don't believe in lost causes so you never know, get them in the wordly ring, and you might just knock some sense into them.

Singles Awareness Day

What in the world? Is the point of today? It is probably the fakest, most commercial holiday we have come up with thus far. And yet here I sit, on Valentines Day watching the river of various shades of pink and purple flow by. Although I have noticed something, Valentines day is only enjoyed by people with dates. One year someone will hate Valentines day and the next year, they get a date and they love it. Anyway, I suppose they can have their fun. The rest of us will just stand around and be awkward for a day.

Politically Correct

I would like to formally apologize to anyone who might find this offensive:

I do not want this in anyway to come across negatively to any parties, especially those who are in the practice of being very politically correct, or those who are not, or those who are of a different sexual orientation. I would like to apologize in advance for anyone who might find this message offensive. I am just putting forth my opinion, and this is just my opinion, not the thoughts or beliefs of anyone or any group I am associated with. And if my opinion is contrary to what you might believe, please let me know and I will terminate this site and never relay my opinions on this subject to you again, especially if you are of a different sexual orientation. So, I am going to just go ahead and say this: I think we as a society are being to politically correct. If you are of a different political standing or race or especially a different sexual orientation, please except my heartfelt apologies for offending you.

v. Facebook - to post on ones Facebook

Things start to get weird when nouns, by their popularity, are converted to verbs. You know what I'm talking about you just arnt thinking yet. For example google. As the empire expanded you now google something. That kind of thing. Its very strange because it means this word is slightly controling your life. I'm not the one to talk becuse my life has been googled. We will talk about that a bit later. In the mean time. Facebook. It is a drug not any better then crack. People get addicted and why? The pourpose of facebook was to meet people with similar interest but all my friends are from my school. I know all of them. So we now people just make funny groups and join them. And they chat... yes thats right, they chat. But Facebook does not have a chatroom you say? You would be correct. but people just write something on someones wall and wait several minutes for a response. It is inconsivable but alas it is dying becuase everyone is friends with everyone else. I'm out.

The Point of No Return

It is slightly comical to me that when people graduate or move up in life, everything seems to be different. This idea has come to me in the form of graduation from Middle School. Once you hit the 9th grade, everyone seems to think that you can stop all of that middle school nonsence becuase your a highschooler now. At lovett, it is this huge deal, on the first day of high school people are talking about how their middle school days are behind them and they are so glad. I jsut dont get it. It would be like when you turn 80, all of lifes questions are answered instantly so you can just be that old wise guy sitting in a rocking chair in the corner telling the young folks how to live thier life and predicting the future so you can be in a book.
